In 1964, a group of parents opened the first integrated preschool in Augusta. No child was turned away because of the color of their skin or their religion.  It was the only preschool with an open door policy and was entirely administered by the parents.

Today, after almost 40 years, Open Door Preschool provides a nurturing environment for children of fourteen months through five years old regardless of race, color, or creed.  It remains unique as the only parent-run, non-sectarian preschool in the area. True to its history, it continues to be a non-profit organization.
